Postal Services
Postal Service The Barbados Postal Service (BPS) is a department of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The head of the BPS is the Postmaster General. There are 18 post offices across the island operating from 8:00am and to 3:00pm Monday to Friday. The General Post Office opens earlier at 7:30am and closes at 5:00pm. Apart from local Express Mail Service, the BPS offers international services which are widely used for the Caribbean region and the USA. There is also a pick-up service for corporate clients and government departments. Fedex, DHL and UPS couriers also operate out of Barbados. Sale of Stamps Stamps are issued for use with mail – whether parcels or letters. To qualify for a letters rate, the document must not exceed 2 kilogrammes.
Stamps used for postage usually form either definitive or commemorative sets. There are eighteen stamp denominations ranging in value from Five cents (5¢) to Ten Dollars ($10.00).
Definitive postage stamps depict some aspect of national life and remain in circulation for about five years. Commemorative stamps depict special events (e.g. the 150th Anniversary Issue) with approximately five or six denominations. These stamps are in circulation for a specific period.
Revenue Stamps These stamps range in value from Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) to One Thousand Dollars ($1000.00) and are used for a wide range of personal and business purposes.
Revenue stamps are affixed to documents ranging from marriage licenses to conveyances and such stamps form part of the legal requirement of documents.
Reply Coupons This is an international postal facility that guarantees return mailing postage. The Postal Administration in the country of destination is bound by international postal conventions to convert the reply coupon for the equivalent value of postage to effect first class onward transmission.
Registration Service This service adds more security and reliability for mail and allows for verification of receipt of mail. The advice of delivery service (A. R. Card) provides customera with the signature of the person receiving the mail.
EMS EMS is designed to give the customer a fast, efficient and reliable yet fully documented service.
